Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.

If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families!

We have one more week of our food bank drive so please be sure to send a donation in by Friday the 12th. Thank you for your generosity!

On another note, there are a lot of jackets and hoodies in the lost and found. Many jackets are being left on the playground after recess and lunch. If you put your child's name in the jacket, we can return it to them. If you think your child's jacket might be in the lost and found, please send me an email describing it and I will reunite jacket and child or make an appointment with me of Teresa to come in and look at the lost and found. As parents ourselves, we know how frustrating and expensive it can be to replace lost items. The same goes for water bottles, lunch kits, etc. Thank you for your help!

If you did not attend a goal setting conference with your child's teacher, please feel free to get in touch. You can have a conference with your child's teacher any time of year by mutual arrangement.

Lastly, we will be holding our Remembrance Day Assembly on November 10th at 11:15 am on Teams. You can attend by log on to your child's Teams account and joining the meeting through the calendar. All the best for the week ahead!

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

Southlands Elementary PAC is excited to launch the Direct Donation campaign, raising funds for the 2022/2023 school year.

We will be sending information home this week with details of how you can donate to the campaign. Look out for an information letter coming home in your child's backpack.

Southlands Elementary School takes pride in having built a strong spirit of Giving that is powered by the generous contributions of your time and financial support to help enrich our children’s learning. Over the years, the Direct Donation campaign has helped Southlands deliver new programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that were outside of the VSB funding.

Last year we did not run a Direct Donation campaign due to the unfolding global pandemic and unfortunately our other fundraising events were limited due to pandemic restrictions. We are seeking to revitalize our fundraising efforts again this year.

We are seeking to raise $15,000 to fund our basic budgetary demands and enrichment programs that help our children learn and develop the IB Primary Years Program Essential elements: Learner Profile; Transdisciplinary Themes; Concepts, Attitudes; Approaches to Learning and Action.

The money raised in this campaign will be used to fund the following items in the 2022-23 school year:
  • Outdoor Classroom                $10,000
  • Classroom Funds                    $ 5,000

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT!

If you are looking for some YUMMY holiday gifts for your family, friends, co-workers, or just a treat for yourself, Purdy’s Chocolates is a great option, and also a nice way to support our school. Southlands gets 25% from the orders, which is huge fundraiser for the school especially THIS year. Please keep an eye out for the HOLIDAY CATALOGUE that will be given to the students on Monday, November 8th.

You can order online:
  • Go to https://fundraising.purdys.com/1020905-89576
  • Log into your account or create one.
  • If prompted, enter customer number #6421 for the Southlands Fundraiser
  • Please fill out Student Name and Division # under Additional Information
  • Place your order!
The fundraiser is open till November 28th with delivery happening on December 10th and 13th at school. THANK YOU for your support!

Southlands PAC collects contact information for each student and their family on a voluntary basis. This information is made available in a directory for PAC and parent use. The directory is a great way for classmates and the families of Southlands school to connect, and for PAC volunteers to communicate about PAC activities. All information is to be used in the Southlands community only, and is not used for solicitation or any other purpose. The Directory is organized by the PAC and not by Southlands Elementary school staff.

This year the PAC directory has moved online. Instead of paper forms that were sent home every year, the PAC directory can be filled out online. Please take a few minutes to enter your information:

The Nov DPAC newsletter is now available. Please click above to read it.

Some highlights from this issue:

Parents and caregivers are invited to attend an information evening about the COVID19 Vaccines. DPAC is booking experts to provide basic information about vaccines — what they are, how they work, concerns about them, why they are part of the strategy of getting through the current pandemic. There will be time for questions. Register for the November DPAC General Meeting

The Anti-Racism Collective is a group of parents, caregivers and community members seeking to ensure that VSB antiracism efforts are successful. From within, a smaller working group is engaged in formal advocacy work to advise VSB in matters concerning racism, hate and harassment. The Collective works in support of this group. Interested people please contact Karen.
