Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Dear Southlands Families,
We hope you have had an enjoyable weekend. On Friday, the Southlands staff participated in the District Indigenous Focus Day. We appreciated having time to learn from knowledge keepers and talk about land-based education. During our discussions, we decided that we will be taking students on more regular forest walks. Spending time in nature and in the forest have proven health benefits. We will be going on walks with different themes, inspired by Gillian Judson's book, The Walking Curriculum. Students must come prepared for the weather, for recess, lunch and forest walks. Thank you for your help. Speaking of outerwear, please visit the Lost and Found - it is over flowing with jackets and hoodies!
Report cards will be sent home on Friday, December 1st. Please note that the Ministry of Education issued a new Reporting Order on July 1st, 2023. There will three report cards this year. Report cards will look slightly different (shorter and more succinct). As well, we can no longer put student progress between two levels of the performance scale. The levels are Beginning, Developing, Proficient or Extending. If you have any questions about your child's report card, please do not hesitate to reach out.

It's that time of year again that we are looking for class parents for each division. This is a great role to be involved in and doesn't take too much time. It mainly involves sharing information with the class from the PAC as needed, helping to create a community within your group and most importantly celebrating and thanking our amazing teachers in the holiday period and at the end of the year.
We are still looking for class parents for these divisions:

- Division 5: Ms. Beck
- Division 6: Ms. Lightburn
- Division 8: Ms. Laven
- Division 9: Ms. Kim
- Division 10: Ms Benson-Mah
