Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Dear Southlands Families,
We will be sending home a school newsletter on Monday morning. In the meantime, please remember to send forks, spoons, chopsticks, etc. for your child's lunch as needed, as we do not have any to hand out. Also, please come by and check out the Lost and Found which is overflowing with jackets and hoodies.
Next week, we are looking forward to a District-wide day of learning about Indigenous education, so there will be no school for students on Friday. All the best for the week ahead.

Join us for this month's PAC meeting. Every parent and caregiver with a child at Southlands is automatically part of the Parent Advisory Council. Join other parents in the school library on Nov 21 at 6pm, and hear about the plans for the upcoming year.

It's that time of year again that we are looking for class parents for each division. This is a great role to be involved in and doesn't take too much time. It mainly involves sharing information with the class from the PAC as needed, helping to create a community within your group and most importantly celebrating and thanking our amazing teachers in the holiday period and at the end of the year.
We are still looking for class parents for these divisions:
- Division 1: Mr. Lee
- Division 4: Ms. Sarah Mckendy
- Division 5: Ms. Beck
- Division 6: Ms. Lightburn
- Division 8: TBD
- Division 9: Ms. Kim
- Division 10: Ms Benson-Mah

Our Winter Holiday Purdy’s Fundraiser is upon us!
Please consider supporting this fundraiser by buying some local chocolate for the upcoming Winter season. All funds raised will go towards the school.
We have gone paperless so there is no paper catalogue coming home with your child. The catalogue is available online here.

We cordially invite you, your students and their families to our annual Faraday Science Show for kids, happening on Sunday December 3rd, 2023 in HEBB Theatre.
This is a free science lecture for children, hosted by our students, staff and faculty. This year’s theme is “The Wonders of Space!” – we think it’s going to be the greatest science show in the galaxy!
How do rockets get into orbit? How big are our planets? How explosive is compressed air? Can you make a crater? What do black holes eat? All these questions and more will be answered through fun demos and hands-on activities celebrating physics and astronomy for all ages.
