Greetings Southlands Families.
We hope you are all doing well. Last week, a VSB painter has been in the school. He has touched up the walls and repaired some of the scuffs and dents and it sure looks nice! It will be great to come back in September to a place that looks clean and well cared for. I have told the staff that they must adhere to this rule: No Tape on the Walls! :-)
This week, report cards will be available for pick up from Tuesday on. Your child’s teacher will tell you the specific day and time that their class reports can be picked up. If you are not able to come at that time, the report will be held for you until September. Grade 7 reports will be mailed.
We will be sending out one last Wednesday Newsletter next week. The last day of school is Thursday and Friday is our administrative day. Teresa and I will be in the school on Monday, June 29th and Tuesday, June 30th. As always, if you have any questions, please get in touch.

The Grade 7’s were able to enjoy one of Southland’s tradition this past week of leaving their the hand prints on the Legacy Wall (across from the basketball courts).
We are also very grateful to the Grade 7 teachers who organized an online Leaving Ceremony on Tuesday, June 23rd at 10 am for Southlands 2020 Graduates. Congratulations!

Our yearbook schedule has been delayed. We will be filling orders now with a planned delivery of the yearbook in September. We are excited to offer two yearbook options this year - in addition to the usual softcover version, we will also offer a hardcover version.
This year, when you pre-order your yearbook, you will also receive a link to an electronic version of the yearbook (without personalization), once it's completed.
In addition if you pre-order, you have the option to personalize your book. You can create your own back cover and up to 4 pages for free!

Division 1,
You are invited to come to Southlands on Wednesday, June 24 from 2-3 pm to pick up report cards. The weather is forecasted to be sunny, so I plan to sit outside at the front of the school and hand them out to you as you arrive. This will also give me the chance to do a last in-person goodbye for the year. We will, of course, maintain social distance protocols.
A reminder to Please bring any classroom or library books to return at that time.

My name is Mikyla Jensen and I am the flute/recorder teacher here at Southlands Elementary School. I know that this year really didn't turn out as we expected it to, but I am so proud of all of the hard work of the students that have been attending online flute zoom lessons for the last few months. Therefore, we have decided to put on an online recital for all of our friends and family! It will be hosted by the Mozart School of Music, director Olga Lockwood. The online recital will be on June 25 at 7pm.

Thank you to the volunteers who came out for a garden tidy on Friday ~ Julie Tyas, Caroline Dickson, Paula Tisdale, Paola Belio.
Thank you so much to the families and Ms. Prins for signing up to the 2020 Southlands Summer Garden Care and Watering, which kicked off June 20th and will run until September 19th.
Also, delighted to announce that Julie Tyas will be the new Garden Committee Coordinator! Thank you Julie!

While our regular fundraising programs are suspended, our direct donation campaign is still open and donations can still be made online. So far we have collected $2,100 in donations.
Last year, the Direct Donation campaign helped Southlands deliver new programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that were outside of the VSB funding. These included New Laptops, Artist in Residence Music teachers, Arts performances, and Body Science Program. This year, we are seeking to raise $22,000 to fund laptops, Artist in Residence, Water bottle filling station and repainting the basketball court.
