Greetings Southlands Families,
We had fun on Friday celebrating Rainbow Pride Day and want to thank the Grade 6/7 Leadership students for organizing. This week, all students will attend on Monday and Tuesday only.
On Monday, the Grade 7 Farewell Assembly will take place at 1:30 pm. Parents of Grade 6's and 7's are welcome to attend on Teams. No other classes will be held due to the extreme heat warning.
On Tuesday morning we will be having a Year End Assembly, also on Teams. Parents who wish to attend on Teams should email mpaxton@vsb.bc.ca to receive an invitation.
I am making plans with the staff for the extra hot weather Tuesday to ensure that students can seek shade during outside time. We are very lucky to have a school with lots of green space and shade-providing trees, as many city school do not.
We hope you found our final school newsletter for the 2020-2021 school year in your email box on Friday. It has important information about class photos, staff leaving, and more. I would like to wish everyone a happy, safe and healthy summer. See you on Wednesday, September 8th!

With just one more day left of school, this will be the last PAC newsletter of the school year. Please join me in thanking all the parent volunteers who have worked so hard to keep PAC activities running this year, making our children's school days and our community life feel a little bit closer to normal. From maintaining the garden to organising fundraisers to making sure our Grade 7s enjoy some grad celebrations, a group of dedicated volunteers has gone above and beyond to keep our special school community thriving. Thank you especially to our unsung hero, Abhi Gupta, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to send out the weekly newsletter like clockwork every Sunday, keeping us all informed and connected.
Please also remember to show your thanks to our incredibly hard working teachers and other school staff, who have done so much under such difficult conditions this year to keep our children safe, happy and learning. A special thank you to Ms Paxton, who has guided us all with calmness and grace.
Finally, thank you to you, all the Southlands families, for being part of our special community through such a strange year. Together we are Sockeye Strong!

There is information going around about photo consent forms for the yearbook that is not correct. All parents were asked to sign a consent form in September which asked if you agreed to let your child's photo be published or not, including in the yearbook. If you don't know whether you have signed this form but you DO want your child's photo in the yearbook, you can contact Dina at southlands.yrbook@gmail.com and she can tell you if you have already said yes. If you do NOT want your child's photo in the yearbook you can still order one, even if you chose no on the consent form
