Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.

If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands families

We sent out our biweekly Southlands School Newsletter via email on Friday. We hope you received it.

We want to encourage you to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns about the learning or social emotional development of your child, or any conflicts they have been experiencing. This is the most efficient and effective way of sharing information. COMMUNICATION is so important! Thank you for helping us to be better in knowing what, when, and how to communicate with you most effectively.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

After the success of their workshops this fall, ONE TO ONE is again hosting virtual workshops for interested parents/caregivers of students in Grades 1-3 called Come Read with Me.

Come Read with Me is an interactive workshop facilitated by a ONE TO ONE educator designed to give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn positive strategies to help them support their children when reading at home. Participating families will receive a digital resource package including the “Reading Success at Home” handbook. This program is available at no cost to families across British Columbia through the generous support of donors.

The virtual sessions are on February 15, 23, 28, March 10, and 16. They start at 6:30 and run for 60 minutes with time for questions after. Each session is the same – parents/caregivers only need to come once

We hope you are enjoying the Family Day weekend. On Wednesday we will be celebrating both Mother Tongue Day and Pink Shirt Day. Classes have been decorating their doors with the word Kindness in many different languages. And we will have a special extended Morning Announcements with two students from Ms. Beck's class sharing some thought about kindness. Thank you to everyone for wearing pink on Wednesday!

We will be emailing home our bi-weekly School Newsletter on Friday with pictures from around the school. Watch your in-boxes!

Thank you for your generous support of our fundraising events using Munchalunch over the last year. We do not know if we will be able to use MunchaLunch for hot lunch programs this year so we would like to clear all the credits on families' accounts at this time. Please log in to your account and check if you have any credits on the system.

If you have credits, please consider donating them to the PAC, to help with our fundraising efforts which have been affected by Covid for the last two years.

You may also request a refund through e-transfer, but we must receive your request no later than Friday March 11. Please contact Cecilia at southlands.munchalunch@gmail.com and let her know if you would like to have your credits refunded.  The deadline for any credit refund is Friday March 11. All leftover credits on Munchalunch after that will be donated to PAC.
Thank you all for your support of Div 3's Valentine's Day Arts and Crafts Fair to raise funds for Covenant House. They raised $500!

Thanks for joining the Feb PAC meeting. For those were not able to attend, please review the minutes for the Feb PAC meeting. There will be no March meeting due to Spring Break.
