Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.

If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,

This morning eight students, their parents and I ran the mini Sun Run representing Southlands. Way to go, Sockeyes!

Last week we enjoyed the lovely weather and spent a lot of time outside. Thank you to the UBC student teachers for being Garden Heroes and helping us plant spring crops in the garden beds. Thank you, Ms. Chowne, Mr. Andre and Ms. Steph.

On Thursday, we had a cool Hip Hop presentation by a group called Metaphor. Our students and staff really enjoyed it. See a post on Instagram @southlandsIB.

Next week, Div. 3 and 4 will be going on Camosun Bag walks, there will be Owl Presentations for Div. 3, 4, 9, 10 Thursday. And on Friday, a number of students will be going with me, Ms. Brianna and Ms. Judy to the airport for a behind-the-scenes tour.

Thanks for understanding that students cannot wear Heelys to school unless the wheels are retracted.

Don't forget that tomorrow, Monday, April 22nd is a Professional Day - no school on Monday!

All the best for the week ahead.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton (she/her)

Calling All Parents & Caregivers of Students with Disabilities: Your Stories are Important

The Inclusive Education Working Group has created a survey to collect stories from across the district about the experiences of students with disabilities. From the survey:
As the Vancouver School Board (VSB) develops its budget for next year, we are preparing a submission and presentation to convey to staff and trustees how learners with disabilities are underresourced. We have collected numerical data from the district and the Ministry of Education and Child Care showing that the VSB is underspending on students with disabilities. We would like to support this data with stories from parents about how their children are experiencing accessibility in district schools this year.
