Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,
It was so nice to see everyone this week. The students were so happy to see their classmates and friends. On Tuesday, we welcomed 7 new students, and new students continue to come, some in our catchment, but most from other schools where there is no room. Thanks to the students and teachers for making new children feel welcome. I heard one new student in grade 1 say to her mother at pick up today, "I made a new friend!" Another new student in grade 6 told her dad, "I feel like I've been here forever!" Well done, Sockeyes!
Next week, Ms. Wood will begin teaching Div. 5 Mondays - Thursdays and Mr. Jung will teach on Fridays. We know that the class will be well-looked after by these two excellent and experienced educators.
The only April event on the notice board is the Pro.d. Day on Monday, April 22nd. Many thanks to parent, Laura Wallbridge for changing the notice board every month.
We will be sending out a school newsletter on Friday, April 12th. If your child would like to contribute a poem, book review or another short piece of writing, we would gladly welcome their input. Please email it to me, or drop off a copy at the office.

Mastery School of Music, whose wonderful teacher Mikyla Jensen teaches flute and recorder after school at Southlands, will have some cool camps like song writing, music and coding and a mini music makers camp for 4-6 year olds during summer break.

This is a completely free youth golf clinic ran by British Columbia Golf in conjunction with our 2024 Indigenous Championship British Columbia. The goal of the clinic is to leave a greater impact on the host community and provide for youth to learn and experience the game. We piloted this project in 2023 at Nk’ mip and are very excited to bring it back for 2024 in Vancouver.
7 years old is the cut off age. So the clinic is open to all kids 7 and up. No prior golf experience is required. If kids have clubs they are encouraged to bring them, if not we will have clubs available.

All kids in the clinic will receive a prize goody bag after their hour is up. This will include British Columbia Golf swag and other treats. We will also arrange with the clubhouse for the kids to get lunch once they are done.

Ocean Ambassadors Canada, a local ocean stewardship charity. has summer camps include learning to stand-up paddle, lots of adventures on the water and the beach, as well as education about marine life and ocean health.
