Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Dear Southlands Families,
Last week we began some festive activities, with the understanding that we are not only celebrating Christmas, but seasonal celebrations from multiple cultures and traditions. Next week, we will be starting Musical Moments during Morning Announcements. Students should be on time for school to participate! Each day we will play a holiday song and students will listen for clues, then enter to win a hot chocolate and a candy cane.
On Wednesday we will be having a Spirit Day. The theme is festive headwear: wear holiday hats or headbands. Some classes are having an additional pajama day on Wednesday.
Ms. Beck's class is collecting Socks for the Homeless. Please send a pair of new socks to add to our donation collection. Thank you!
During the last week before break, we will be having a Sing Along on Wed. Dec. 20th at 2:00 pm. Family members are welcome.

Southlands PAC is excited to be putting on a Winter Solstice Fair this year. The Fair will be on Thursday, December 21st from 3 - 5pm. We will have games, crafts, a bake sale, musical entertainment and a selfie wall! Before the fair, all Southlands classes will be taking part in a gingerbread house decorating contest, which will be judged at the fair. There will be delicious treats for sale, as well as a raffle to win a beautiful gift basket or gift cards, kindly donated by Choices Markets.

If you have a child in Grade 7, please get in touch with Nina at southlands.elementary@gmail.com to have your contact details added to the Grad parents' list. This way we can let you know about grad activities and fundraising this year.
Both Grade 6/7 classes are also still needing a class parent. Please think about signing up for this role, as it will also help us to coordinate grad activities to make sure our Grade 7s have a wonderful final year at Southlands. Let Nina know if you can take on this small but important role.
