The PAC requires there to be a Treasurer. If we do not have a Treasurer by the AGM, the Southlands PAC will have to surrender all funds to the VSB. Please consider volunteering so that the Southlands PAC can continue to run programs for Southlands families when school resumes in September. It is not essential that the Treasurer attends all PAC meetings. Please contact Nina to learn more about the role.
Southlands Elementary has had an active PAC thanks to dedicated volunteers. The PAC Executive is elected each June at an Annual General Meeting. Our AGM will be held on June 10, 2020 at 7:15pm. Due to physical distancing requirements, the AGM cannot be conducted in person and instead will be held on the Zoom platform (details to follow).
All positions on the PAC Executive have a one-year term. The 2019-2020 executive consisted of:

To nominate yourself or another member of the Southlands PAC, please contact the nominations committee via Melanie Antweiler. An election for any and all contested positions will be held via anonymous Zoom vote during the June 10 AGM.

The Role of the Parent Advisory Council
The purpose of the Parent Advisory Council shall be to promote and support education and to continue to contribute to a sense of school community and the well-being of the children who attend Southlands. The Council shall encourage parents to participate in meaningful educational activities and decision making.
PAC Objectives:
- To maintain direct communication between the school and an interested parental body.
- To inform the parental community of school organization, affairs, educational, changes, needs and concerns, via public meetings, newsletters, discussion groups etc.
- To allow for advice and discussion between parents and school administration and staff; School Board and the Provincial Ministry, according to the B.C. Schools Act.
- To assist each child to meet his/her physical, mental, social, and emotional needs; to foster high ideals of citizenship; and to promote goodwill and peace through co-operation within the school community.

All parents or legal guardians of students registered at Southlands Elementary School are voting members of the PAC. Our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) consists of every parent or guardian of a student attending Southlands.

Greetings Southlands Families.
We hope you had a very enjoyable weekend! As we begin the final month of the school year, I would like to thank you all for maintaining your kindness and calm over the past three months. In my 28 years in schools, this has been the most unusual and challenging time, but I have also seen the Southlands School community rise to the challenges and support one another in the most respectful and caring ways. Thank you! As we prepare to welcome some of our students to school on Monday, I would like to echo the words of our Minister of Education, Rob Fleming. In his recent letter he said, “You chose what is best for your family” and “School will not be the same as it was before.” Whatever you have decided to do, continue online learning, or attend part time – it is OKAY! In September, we will hopefully return to a school that looks and feels much more familiar. Thank you as always for your support and please get in touch if you have questions

If you filled out the survey opting to send your child(ren) to school starting Monday, you will have received an email from the school on Thursday. Please review it carefully and follow the instructions outlined in there.

While our regular fundraising programs are suspended, our direct donation campaign is still open and donations can still be made online. So far we have collected $1,300 in donations.
Last year, the Direct Donation campaign helped Southlands deliver new programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that were outside of the VSB funding. These included New Laptops, Artist in Residence Music teachers, Arts performances, and Body Science Program. This year, we are seeking to raise $22,000 to fund laptops, Artist in Residence, Water bottle filling station and repainting the basketball court.
