Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.

If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands families

Some highlights of the week:
  • Div. 1 and 2 are working really hard for Exhibition. This year they are putting more focus on the action that they will take in regard to their "lines of inquiry." Stay tuned to hear more.
  • Division 3 worked industriously to craft a variety of Valentine's related items to sell after school Thursday and Friday. The funds will all go to the non-profit Covenant House which supports vulnerable youth.
  • Every day recently, the district is sending someone from the school board office to help as playground supervisor. We appreciate this as we are waiting for a permanent partner for Miss Heidi.
  • Finally, we welcomed three new Sockeyes, students Sophie and Matilda, and a new permanent SSA, Max Klunder!  Welcome!
This coming week, we will celebrate Valentine's Day on Monday (sorry - no homemade treats), and a District Professional Day on Friday. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

Hello Southlands families!

Please consider donating, your generous support is greatly appreciated. You will now receive a 2022 tax receipt for any donations made.

Please review the information previously sent home for details of how you can donate.

Funds raised through this campaign will help support the Outdoor Classroom and Classroom Funds. Our fundraising goals are $10,000 for the Outdoor classroom and $5,000 for Classroom funds.

We would like to say a huge Thank you to our most recent donors and all of our donors to the campaign so far. We truly appreciate your support!

Our total received to date is $7,550

After the success of their workshops this fall, ONE TO ONE is again hosting virtual workshops for interested parents/caregivers of students in Grades 1-3 called Come Read with Me.

Come Read with Me is an interactive workshop facilitated by a ONE TO ONE educator designed to give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn positive strategies to help them support their children when reading at home. Participating families will receive a digital resource package including the “Reading Success at Home” handbook. This program is available at no cost to families across British Columbia through the generous support of donors.

The virtual sessions are on February 15, 23, 28, March 10, and 16. They start at 6:30 and run for 60 minutes with time for questions after. Each session is the same – parents/caregivers only need to come once
