Greetings Southlands Families,

We hope you received our bi-weekly newsletter that was emailed home this afternoon. Read it to find out what amazing things are happening at school in the last few weeks of the year. We also attached a Letter of Late return if you intend to have your child not attend right away in September, due to vacation or other reason. We can hold the spot for a limited amount of time.

Don't forget Monday is a Professional Day. Teachers will be working on some IB topics. See you Tuesday!

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

Munchalunch will be having their summer maintenance starting on July 1. As a result, the program will not be in use during the summer months. Your Munchalunch coordinator will "roll rover" your credits on Munchalunch for the next school year in August. However, if you wish to have your credits refunded before the end of June, please email Renee.  Please make sure to have your request in before 3 pm on Friday June 18th. Note any refund requests after 3 pm June 18 will not be processed. Thank you for a great Munchalunch year!

On Monday June 14, PAC will present to VSB's Committee of the Whole at 7 pm.  We wish to increase awareness about our unique community needs and the importance to secure VSB's long term support of the IB PYP and building maintenance.

One of our objectives is to request the raising of the Musqueam Flag.  In 2019 we were gifted a Musqueam Flag, designed by Susan Point, and we are proud to receive this honored gift.  We believe that the visual display of Musqueam symbols is important and we are very proud that four of Susan Point’s children attended Southlands and many of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews have, and are attending. We are asking that VSB consider amending AP 157 to permit Indigenous Nation’s flags.  Alternately, revisit the estimated cost of $40,000 for a second pole

The Agenda can be found here:

You can follow along on the VSB YouTube channel at 7 pm https://www.youtube.com/user/VanSchoolBoard/videos

Surveys

We are still looking for more survey completions. Please take a few minutes to fill out these two surveys so we can work on improving the school experience.

We have completed the processing of reviewing, revising, and, in some cases, completely rewriting our school's PYP Policies.  These policies can now all be found on this blog and on the school website.

As required by the International Baccalaureate Organization, we have an Access and Admissions Policy, an Inclusion Policy, and Academic Integrity Policy, a Language Policy, and an Assessment Policy.

VPSC is a competitive swim club primarily located on the west side of Vancouver, swimming out of the UBC Aquatic Centre, St. George's Senior Boys School, Lord Byng Secondary School and Kerrisdale Community Centre.  From June 21-26, they are running some Rookie Camps geared towards elementary school students to give them an opportunity to try out competitive swimming.  Through the course of the pandemic, swimming has proven to be one of the safest indoor activities to do and is an ideal way to bring the community together to be active during this time!
