Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.

If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Dear Southlands Families,

We hope you are having a relaxing Remembrance Day Weekend. I was out in the downtown core of Vancouver on Sat. Nov. 11th and I was moved to see that at 11:00 everyone stopped for over a minute of silence remembering all who served, including Indigenous veterans, in the conflicts in which Canada has been involved.

On Friday, I returned from a conference held in Atlanta, GA. It was put on by the non-profit CASEL: the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning. I listened to many inspiring scholars and activists. I am thankful for the VSB's support of my professional development and to the staff of Southlands for keeping the ship afloat in my absence. Come chat with me if you are interested in hearing more about what I learned, which I will also share with the staff and students at our school.

In the week ahead, we will be continuing to prepare for the first term report cards, checking in with students about how they feel about their learning and what goals they would like to work toward in the next term.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please reach out.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton (she/her)

Our Winter Holiday Purdy’s Fundraiser is upon us!

Please consider supporting this fundraiser by buying some local chocolate for the upcoming Winter season. All funds raised will go towards the school.

We have gone paperless so there is no paper catalogue coming home with your child. The catalogue is available online here.

You can order online:
  1. Go to https://fundraising.purdys.com/1020905-113375
  2. Log into your account or create one.
  3. If prompted, enter customer number #6421 for the Southlands Fundraiser
  4. Please fill out Student Name and Division # under Additional Information
The deadline to order is December 2nd, 2023.
Delivery will be December 15th and December 18th. The delivery team will either have a local house porch pick up option or meet up at the school during pick up and drop off times.

Thank you!
It's that time of year again that we are looking for class parents for each division. This is a great role to be involved in and doesn't take too much time. It mainly involves sharing information with the class from the PAC as needed, helping to create a community within your group and most importantly celebrating and thanking our amazing teachers in the holiday period and at the end of the year.

If you are interested in this role or have any questions, please email Laura Wallbridge. Please let me know the division you would like to be a class parent for. If you expressed interest in this role on the first day of school, please let me know which division your child is in. This role can be shared with another parent.
  • Division 1: Mr. Lee
  • Division 2: Ms. Alexandra de Montigny
  • Division 3: Ms. Phung
  • Division 4: Ms. Sarah Mckendy
  • Division 5: Ms. Beck
  • Division 6: Ms. Lightburn
  • Division 7: Mr. Chan
  • Division 8: TBD
  • Division 9: Ms. Kim
  • Division 10: Ms Benson-Mah
Thanks for volunteering!
