Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.
If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Greetings, Southlands Families,
Teachers are looking forward to meeting you this week for our Goal-Setting Conferences. Please remember that on Wednesday and Thursday students will be dismissed at 2 pm and arrange for early pick up. Thank you!
We sent home the bi-weekly School Newsletter via email on Friday and hope you received it. This week Student Leadership organized our first Spirit Day. Congratulations to Levi in Div. 9, Felicity in Div. 7 and Dash in Div. 5 for their creative costumes. The next Spirit Day will be November 19th. It is Heritage Day, an opportunity for students to wear or bring something from their culture to share with class. The final Spirit Day of 2021 will be Pajama Day on the last day of school before Winter Break, December 17th.
Our Fall Food Bank Drive begins tomorrow. We are hoping to collect 250 items for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. If you prefer to make a cash/cheque donation, please send it to the office with your child. Thanks for your generosity!
Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

At the DPAC General meeting on October 28th, 33+ Vancouver PACs (including Southlands) voted 94% in favour for a motion to hold off on irreversible facilities decisions that impact students until VSB plans are transparently updated with the latest data on where kids live now (Canada Census 2021) and where kids will live in the future (Vancouver Plan, Broadway Plan, Jericho Lands Policy Statement, etc.).
The motion as voted on can be found here

Dear Southlands Parents,
We are so excited to be rolling out the hot lunch program starting this Friday, November 5th. We have chosen to use the local company C'est Mon Cafe which meets the health and safety standards set by the VSB, and which has been serving delicious food to Vancouver schools for several years. As we transition into bringing back the hot lunch program at Southlands there might be some hiccups along the way, so please be patient as we continue to iron out the details. If you have any questions please contact us at southlands.elementary@gmail.com
Lunches will be served on Fridays and can be ordered directly from the C'est Mon Cafe website https://www.cestmoncafe.com/
Once on the website please select Southlands, this will bring you directly to the ordering section for Southlands Elementary
After selecting Southlands, please select the "order here" button
Once you've hit the "order here" button you will be able to view the menu being offered, please note that menu offerings have been organized by DATE.
Once you've decided what meal you would like, you can select the button "order form" to place your lunch order.

Come Read with Me workshop
After the success of the workshops this spring, ONE TO ONE is again hosting virtual workshops for interested parents/caregivers of students in Grades 1-3 called Come Read with Me.
Come Read with Me is an interactive workshop based on our tutor training and facilitated by a ONE TO ONE educator designed to give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn positive strategies to help them support their children when reading at home. Participating families will receive a digital resource package including the “Reading Success at Home” handbook. This program is available at no cost to families across British Columbia through the generous support of our donors.
The sessions are on November 2, 10, 18, 24, and 30. They start at 6:30 and run for 60 minutes with time for questions after. Each session is the same - parents only need to come once. To register and for more information, please visit https://www.eventbrite.ca/o/one-to-one-literacy-society-32436852611

Thank you to the families who have joined our FlipGive team! We have already earned $486 for Southlands programs. We encourage others to join the team using code FRJ3Z5.
Use the FlipGive app or browser plugin before shopping online at stores like Starbucks, Amazon, Sportchek, Nike, Bay, The Gap, Indigo, etc. and you will be ensuring a percentage of your purchase gets credited to Southlands programs.

If you are ordering groceries online from Stong's, please pick "Southlands Elementary School" from the drop down menu so that the PAC can earn a rebate. Thank you for your support!
