Class Parents
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be a class parent so far. This is a great volunteer role that helps build communication in the classroom. We are still in need of parents for 8 divisions. Michelle has placed sign up forms outside each classroom and on the bulletin boards. Alternatively you can email her with your contact information and division. If anyone has any questions about this role, please feel free to contact Michelle. She will also be at the potluck on Wednesday and would be happy to meet with anyone there. Thank you so much for your support!

Message from the Principal
Mrs. Margaret Paxton (@SouthlandsIB on Twitter)

Hello, Southlands Families.  I hope you had a restful and restorative weekend.  I had a chance to teach in most classes this week, to give teachers and Student Support Workers a chance to meet.  What a pleasure it was to spend time with our students who are curious, funny and love a good story.  I have also been spending time in the lunchroom where about half of our students gather to eat.  The teachers, SSW’s and Supervision Aids are working with me to find ways to make sure the atmosphere is calm and conducive to eating.  We are really pleased with the way children have responded and are settling into the routines of school.

Monday is a Professional Development Day.  Staff will be at school planning for the year, working together to ensure that the aims of both the BC Curriculum and the PYP are met.  Please subscribe to the blog written by our PYP Coordinator, Joanna Wood, which will keep you informed about all things IB at Southlands.

Finally, as our September Learner Profile is Caring, I’d like to leave you with this quote from Amelia Earhart:
“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.”

Congratulations to Zayn in Grade 5 who won September’s Pizza with the Principal draw.  Watch for the next chance to win in October’s Newsletter. Newsletters can be found posted on the school website.
