Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.

If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Parents who are picking students up early must come to the office. Office staff will go and get the student.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,

I hope you had a great weekend. On Tuesday, you are invited to come to the school between 3:00 and 4:00 pm and meet your child's teacher, other staff and other families. We hope you can make it.

This week will be another short one as Friday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Schools will be closed.

The professional day that we had planned to have on Monday, Sept. 19th has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 1st. Please mark your calendars. This is a day for teachers and staff to plan their Units of Inquiry for the year. We will be putting this on the calendar on the website.

Thanks to everyone for remembering to drop off and pick up in safe places, obeying traffic signs. Our Safety Patrol will start tomorrow!

Lastly, we sent home demographic and permission packages with each student on Friday. Please update, sign and return as soon as possible for a chance to win Pizza with the Principal for your child and two friends.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton
Principal

Dear Southlands families,

Thank you for your great support for the Welcome Back social and our first PAC meeting of the year on Tuesday. We gave our special thanks to the Musqueam community for organizing and hosting the social event. We hope everyone had a great time and connected with other families, new and returning.

Looking ahead, PAC will be working on Subway lunch, Spirit Wear Sales, and our beloved Purdy's chocolate fundraiser. Also importantly, if you would like to volunteer in any roles, such as the classroom parent,  hot lunch program, veggies and fruits delivery, please let us know. The list of roles are on the website:
https://southlands-pac.blogspot.com/p/southlands-pac.html

A quick reminder for the coming week that our pizza lunch will be on Thursday and if you haven't placed the orders, please do so by 9pm on Sunday night.

Thanks,
Renee
Wearing orange is a way to show your support for Survivors and their families and acknowledge the legacy of residential schools. Orange Shirt Day originates from the story of Phyllis Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation. In 1973, on her first day at St. Joseph’s Residential School in Williams Lake, BC, Phyllis’s shiny new orange shirt was stripped from her, never to be seen again.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be a class parent so far. Your time is greatly appreciated!

We are still looking for 4 or 5 class parents highlighted below. If you are interested in this role or have any questions, please email michelle.mccarthy09@gmail.com and I would be happy to answer them.

Please let me know the division you would like to be a class parent for. If you expressed interest in this role on the first day of school, please let me know which division your child is in.This role can be shared with another parent.
  • Division 3  Ms. Phung - a second parent to share the role
  • Division 4  Ms. Sarah McKendy
  • Division 7  Mr. Chan
  • Division 8  Ms. Mudliar
  • Division 10  Mrs. Gustin (formerly Brough)  Thank you for volunteering!
