Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.
If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Parents who are picking students up early must come to the office. Office staff will go and get the student.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,
We hope you had a relaxing long weekend. Since our professional day was cancelled for the day of mourning, we will be rescheduling it and will give you at least 30 days notice.
We hope you received the Southlands Newsletter in your email Friday afternoon. We will be having an informal Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, September 27th from 3:00 - 4:00 pm in the school garden area. Please come and meet your child's teachers.

Dear Southlands families,
I hope your child(ren) adjusted well in their new classes last week. On Friday we sent home our PAC notices about Pizza Lunch ordering and the Welcome-Back social gathering and PAC meeting.
If you have any questions about placing your child(ren)'s lunch orders on Munchalunch, please reach out to us.
For the social gathering, please RSVP so our Musqueam community can prepare accordingly. We also look forward to meeting new and returning families at our first PAC meeting on Tuesday evening, after the social.
We are also looking for parent volunteers who could help for about half an hour on Fridays for Pizza Friday. Our lunch program relies on the help of parent volunteers. Please let me know if you can help.

It's that time of year again that we are looking for class parents for each division. This is a great role to be involved in and doesn't take too much time. It mainly involves sharing information with the class from the PAC as needed, helping to create a community within your group and most importantly celebrating and thanking our amazing teachers in the holiday period and at the end of the year.
If you are interested in this role or have any questions, please email michelle.mccarthy09@gmail.com and I would be happy to answer them. Please let me know the division you would like to be a class parent for. If you expressed interest in this role on the first day of school, please let me know which division your child is in.This role can be shared with another parent.

Pizza Friday is starting up this week. Please log in to Munchlunch and place your order by Tuesday.
MunchaLunch is an online ordering system for school fundraising that gives parents a fast and easy way to place orders for their children, and pay fundraisers.

As our children settle back in to school and the year gets underway, the members of the PAC executive are excited to be planning a welcome back gathering as well as our first PAC meeting of the year. Southlands community member Dona Point has generously organised for this event to be held at the Musqueam Cultural Centre on Tuesday, 20th September starting at 5pm. It is a privilege to be invited to reconnect as a school community in such a beautiful place, and we hope that you will be able to join us.
We will start with some refreshments provided by Dona and the Musqueam community, followed by a brief meeting to welcome everyone back to another year of PAC activities at Southlands. You can review the agenda for the PAC meeting here

Math Circle Workshop
Students of grades 4 to 7 are invited to challenge and develop their thinking and creativity skills at the Math Circle Workshops.
This is an enrichment program for students organized by the faculty members of the Department of Mathematics at the University of British Columbia and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences.
The goal of these workshops is to convey to students the importance of mathematics in the real world as well as how much fun mathematics can be. We want to get the students excited about mathematics and to give them a setting that encourages them to become passionate about this subject.
The Math Circle Workshops will commence on September 26, 2022 and will continue through April, 2023. The sessions take place on Monday evenings from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, at the SWING Building Room 205 located at: 2175 West Mall.

- There is a $5 fee (cash), per session, per child (parents are free).
- Parents are welcomed and encouraged to stay.
