Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.
If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families!
We were so happy to be able to move into our new classes on Friday. As always, some students find change harder than others. I always try to reassure students that wherever they are placed, they were wanted by their teacher. Thank you for your trust in us and for helping students at this time of transition.
On Friday, we had our first assembly in three years! It was wonderful to gather together in the gym. Students in Grade 6 and 7 led the assembly, presenting several skits and videos about caring, which is our IB Learner Profile Attribute for September.
Please note that our school is having the first Professional Development Day on Monday, Sept. 19th, not September 23rd as other schools are planning. On this day, we will be planning our IB Units of Inquiry.
Early Pick Up Routines: You may now come into the school office! If you are picking up your child early, please come to the office and one of us will bring your child to you. This is to ensure student safety. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Southlands families,
We hope your first week back to school was a successful one, in which you and your children enjoyed re-connecting with families from our community and things started gradually coming back to routine.
One of the first things we will be starting soon is our weekly hot lunch program. PAC is working hard on organizing our Pizza Fridays starting September 23. In the coming week, we will set up Munchalunch and families will be able to place their orders soon. Stay tuned for the pink PAC notices which will be sent home on Friday.
Another exciting news is that our Welcome Back social night will be held at the Musqueam Cultural Centre on Tuesday September 20th. We will also commence our first PAC meeting of the year following the refreshments. Our PAC executive team is so thrilled and grateful for the invitation from our community member Dona Point. We welcome every family to join.

MunchaLunch is an online ordering system for school fundraising that gives parents a fast and easy way to place orders for their children, and pay fundraisers. We encourage you to set up your account now so that you are ready to order once our fundraisers are up and running. We are looking forward to being able to offer Pizza Fridays, monthly Subway lunches, and a spirit wear sale this term!

Welcome back gathering at the Musqueam Cultural Centre
As our children settle back in to school and the year gets underway, the members of the PAC executive are excited to be planning a welcome back gathering as well as our first PAC meeting of the year. Southlands community member Dona Point has generously organised for this event to be held at the Musqueam Cultural Centre on Tuesday, 20th September starting at 5pm. It is a privilege to be invited to reconnect as a school community in such a beautiful place, and we hope that you will be able to join us.
We will start with some refreshments provided by Dona and the Musqueam community, followed by a brief meeting to welcome everyone back to another year of PAC activities at Southlands.
