Please make sure you review the daily health assessment before sending your child(ren) to school. Click here to review.
If you are late to school, your child must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 so they can let the child in.
If your child will be absent from school, please phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. Our school code is 79.

Hello Southlands Families!
What a Happy Hallowe’en we had on Friday! There were so many creative costumes! It was nice to see a little joy in the school – as much as is possible at this time.
The bi-weekly newsletter was sent home on Friday. We hope it is finding its way into your email boxes. Thanks to the students who submitted writing for this issue. Impressive, wasn’t it?
On November 9th, we will have a few more students returning from Option 4. We currently have 70% in-person. This is a good time to review all of the protocols for keeping our school as safe and healthy as possible. Please help our staff by reminding your children about: the importance of handwashing at regular intervals in the school day, walking singly on the right side of the halls and stairwells, using proper etiquette when sneezing or coughing, not sharing food, and keeping “hands to self” on the playground. We want to use reminders, not reprimands. We all need to stay #SockeyeStrong! Thank you so much.
Isn’t our Safety Patrol doing a wonderful job? Thank you to everyone for cooperating with their signage and instructions.
Thank you to all Southlands Families for your words of appreciation and encouragement. These are tough times for everyone. We care about you all and if there is anything we can do to support you, please reach out.
Margaret Paxton
Principal (@SouthlandsIB)

The future of our school buildings and facilities (Long Range facilities plan and more)
We encourage families to try to attend one of the public online upcoming "Build To Learn" VSB meetings. Please note that VSB did not email this information to families, nor are these events listed on its website. Notice for these consultations have been made public in social media and only 2 people attended last weeks families consultation. If you completed the VSB Build To Learn survey last March you should have received an invitation, however we have learned that this did not happen for many. https://www.vsb.bc.ca/District/Board-of-Education/Build2Learn/Pages/default.aspx
DPAC has been working hard to help clarify the intention of these consultations and how they may influence the LRFP. Last week an attendee of a consultation reports that when asked, the moderator explicitly answered: this consultation is NOT Long Range Facilities Planning consultation.
Please be aware that this will not help in creating the blueprint for how families will come to view Vancouver as a place to raise their kids for generations. The past DPAC chair helps to understand that the VSB LRFP is a blueprint for massive school closures. The 2019 draft report had an implied capacity target of 100% and called for the elimination of 12,500 seats (26 schools) by 2027.
How can you learn more or get involved?
1) Contact Southlands Trustee, Carmen Cho, Vice-Chair of our Board of Trustees
carmen.cho@vsb.bc.ca to ask for a proper consultation, if this concerns you.
2) Sign up for one of the 4 upcoming online consulations over the next 10 days:
