Hello Southlands Families!
We hope you all received our email earlier this week and our Southlands Newsletter today. This week, we reviewed the Health and Safety procedures and protocols with all students. We are committed to keeping Southlands as clean as possible, washing our hands frequently, using respiratory etiquette and maintaining physical distance. Thank you for remembering to send your children in Grades 6 and 7 with their reusable masks.
Student Leadership members went around to classes today to talk about World Kindness Day. Next week we are going to practice Random Acts of Kindness. Students who experience such an act can write about it on the pink slips of paper that each teacher has. We will gather them on Friday. At Southlands we believe that every day is Kindness day!
Happy Diwali to all of our friends who celebrate this weekend. Thank you to Atharv and Aagam for talking about Diwali on the morning announcements on Friday. We love to learn about all of the celebrations that take place in our school community. Diversity is our strength!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call.
Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton
Principal (@SouthlandsIB)
PS Check out the VSB website and VSB Instagram for our World Kindness Day story!

Our masks have arrived! Orders will be handed out by teachers this week so please check your child's backpack.
We will re-open for orders on November 23rd for two weeks - just in time for holiday shopping! We have a number of both youth and adult sizes left, but get your orders in fast to avoid missing out.
These beautiful masks provide 2 layers of fabric and have an insert pocket for a filter if you wish. The artwork is a portion of the Southlands school logo, which was redesigned in 2017, featuring artwork by a Musqueam Band member.
Masks cost $15.50 each and can be ordered by logging in to your MunchaLunch account and choosing “Fundraisers”. If you have questions about ordering please Renee at southlands.fundraising@gmail.com

Communicators
For the month of November, we are focusing on the learner trait communicator.
Language is the foundation for all learning, and the PYP places great importance on good communication skills. This is evident in the number of different ways communication is emphasized:
- one of the ten Learner Profile attributes is Communicators
- one of the five Approaches to Learning is Communication Skills
- teaching and learning an additional language is a requirement in PYP schools
