Hello Southlands Families!
On Friday, our teachers were learning a variety of new things along with their colleagues from around the province. Some of the professional development sessions they a attended were on the topics of the math curriculum and inquiry, Heart and Mind: the Art and Science of Calm, Indigenous plants at the UBC Farm, Early Education, The Camosun Bog, and Student Inclusion. I was at the BC Principals’ Conference in Pentiction where I presented on Self-Regulation (the Dr. Stuart Shanker approach).
We are looking for some parents to join our IB Parent Committee. We will be meeting 2 – 3 times this year and want to get your ideas and feedback about how to make our program even stronger and more successful. Please phone, email me or drop by the office to learn more.
Thank you for sending your children to school prepared for any weather. On the wet, west coast, we want to show that we value outdoors exercise and exploration – and a little rain won’t stop us! Boots, rain jackets, hats, and a change of clothes would be most appreciated.
Speaking of clothes: our Lost and Found rack is overflowing with jackets, hoodies, sweaters, water bottles and a couple of nice lunch kits. If you could label things that children bring to school, we can easily reunite them!
Lastly, we are looking forward to seeing you at Conferences in a few weeks. November 6th and 7th will be Early Dismissal Days for conferences. Mark your calendars!
Happy Diwali to everyone who celebrates the Festival of Lights.
Thank you for your continued support, and as always, please get in touch if you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton
