Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,
Welcome to June! It is sure to be a fun month with field trips, year end celebrations and other traditions. This Friday, June 7th is Sports Day. Pizza lunch will be provided for students by the by the PAC. Parents and other family members are welcome to attend and cheer on the students. They will be told their team colour on Monday if they have not already been told. When the activities end at 2:00 pm, parents/guardians may take their child home if they wish. Please sign out with the teacher. Grade 6's and 7's may go home on their own with a parent's note, or an email to the teacher. If we do not have that documentation, students will stay and do quiet activities with their teachers until 3:03. Please note that the Musqueam bus will pick up at 2:10 pm on Sports Day. If you have any questions, please call the office.
The Southlands Yearbooks are a big success! Many thanks to Dina, Francis' parent, for organizing these for the past number of years. Your hard work has been so appreciated! If you missed out and would like to purchase a yearbook - you are in luck! There are extras! All you need to do it bring $21.00 in cheque or cash - made out to Southlands PAC - to the office and Mrs. Paxton will provide a yearbook.

This is the last week for our end-of-year gift card fundraiser!
The gift cards make great gifts for family, friends, teachers, colleagues or even for your own purchases in the future! The best part is that you pay face value and, at no additional cost to you, Southlands will receive a percentage of the gift card amounts!
In order to ensure that the gift cards are ready before the end of the school year, please drop off your completed order form (along with your cheque or cash, if applicable) in the PAC mailbox located at the school’s office no later than by Wednesday, June 5. If you are paying by e-transfer, kindly ensure your email address is set out in the order form.

Family Photo Sessions Fundraiser
The Southlands Elementary School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is pleased to be offering family photo sessions with Amy Williams Photography, over the weekend of June 22-23rd in the schoolyard.
This is our last fundraiser of the year. Families will be able to book a 20 minute session with Amy for a sitting fee of $25, which will be donated to the PAC. There are only 20 slots available, and YES, pets are more than welcome! Make some great memories this spring and help support your PAC and students!

As we come to the end of the school year and prepare for summer vacation, we want to take this time to thank our teachers for all of their hard work. Class parents will be reaching out to families and collecting contributions towards a class gift. Southlands Elementary has been invited to participate in an engaging, educational, and free event organized by the DC Coding Association.
Event: 2024 DC Coding Inaugural STEM Odyssey
Date: June 8, 2024
Location: Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre, UBC Campus, Vancouver

Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
The STEM Odyssey is a one-day event designed to ignite students' passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our mission is to provide free, valuable, and educational STEM opportunities that are accessible to all children, especially those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The event will include:
- Hands-On Workshops: Students can engage in practical STEM 1-hour workshops, such as coding, engineering, and using Arduinos by our experienced volunteer instructors.
- Competitions: Participants can showcase their skills in math competitions and Rubik’s Cube challenges, with winners receiving certificates and prizes during the award ceremony.
- STEM Activities and Stands: There will be stands with engaging STEM demonstrations and activities throughout the day.
- Entertainment and Prizes: The day will also feature musical performances and a lucky draw with multiple exciting prizes.
We are dedicated to making STEM education fun and accessible, and we believe that the STEM Odyssey will provide students with invaluable knowledge and experiences. Participation in the event is free, but seats are limited. We encourage early ticket registration to ensure a spot.
