Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.
If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands families,
This week flew by. We had immunizations for three grades of students, a Technology Lunch and Learn for the teachers with Science World and class photos. Unfortunately we had to postpone the Earth Kids Club as we were short staffed for supervision today. We will try again next week.
Thank you, everyone, for supporting our school with fundraisers, hot lunches, grade 7 leaving ceremony, PAC and so much more. By the way, the grade 7's will be selling freezies and ice cream sandwiches at lunch and after school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. They are $2 each. Please send exact change, and only for your child.

Join us for this month's PAC meeting on 18 May at 7pm. Every parent and caregiver with a child at Southlands is automatically part of the Parent Advisory Council. Register to get the zoom details, review the agenda, and come hear about the plans for the upcoming year. Please email southlands.elementary@gmail.com if you want to add items to the agenda for the meeting.
PAC is also looking for volunteers to join the PAC Executive. Current executive members will all still be at Southlands and will support any new volunteers. Without these volunteers, the PAC cannot operate, and all of the funds in our PAC accounts will be forfeited. Any future PAC will have to start from scratch.
These are the roles that MUST be filled for the PAC to continue
- Chair: leads decision-making for the PAC, runs meetings, liaises with the school
- Fundraising: oversees fundraising activities, advises volunteers for individual fundraising campaigns, coordinates with school staff as needed

Do you have a stroller you are no longer using?
A parent in our school community is collecting used strollers for Afghan refugee families who have recently landed in Vancouver. Many of these families have young children and can’t afford to purchase a stroller. This unfortunately limits their ability to get outside with the children. If you have a stroller you can donate, please contact Caroline at mc.dickson@mac.com

Southlands Elementary PAC Direct Donation Campaign
Hello Southlands families!
The Direct Donation campaign for the 2022-2023 school year has now officially closed, although the online donation platform is always open. The campaign helps Southlands deliver programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that are outside of the VSB funding.
Funds raised through this campaign will help support the Outdoor Classroom and Classroom Funds. Our fundraising goals were $10,000 for the Outdoor classroom and $5,000 for Classroom funds.
Our total received to date is $9560
If any donations have been made recently, we will provide an update when we receive the information from VSB.
We would like to say a huge Thank you to all of our donors to the campaign. We truly appreciate your support!
