Please make sure you review the daily health assessment (english or simplified chinese) before sending your child(ren) to school. Or use the K-12 Health Check website.
If you are late to school, your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. Please call the office at (604) 713-5414 or use the new doorbell beside the door so they can let the child(ren) in.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands families,
This week was an extremely busy one. On Monday, the staff learned a lot about learning outdoors from our guest, Megan Zeni. On Tuesday we continued to prepare for our virtual IB accreditation. Two women joined us: Theresa, from Columbus, Georgia, and Merry, from Indonesia. We spent most of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with them and enjoyed telling them about our school. Thank you to the parents and students who also met with Theresa and Merry. Special thanks to Ms. Wood for all of her hard work in preparing for this important process. We will share the results with you when we receive them.
On Wednesday and Thursday we had Student Led Conferences. If you did not get a chance to speak with your child's teacher, please know that you can make an appointment to do so at any time of year.
On Friday, we also hosted some Special Olympians. They led five classes through The Amazing Race. Our students really enjoyed it.
Next week, we have a Spirit Day. It is Star Wars Day on May the 4th (May the fourth be with you). We will wear our Star Wars themed clothing and learn each others' Star Wars names.
On May 5th, all VSB schools will be practicing an Earthquake Drill and conducting a family reunification. We will be releasing only the students in Div. 9 and Kindergarten at 2:30 pm. An email has been sent to those families with instructions for parents. Thank you to everyone for your support.

Hello Southlands families!
We hope that you all enjoyed the sunshine this weekend. We have just over 8 weeks until the end of the school year. With this in mind, we will be officially closing the Direct Donation campaign on May 13th, although the online donation platform is always open. After that, PAC will only issue Thank you certificates for donations $500 and up. There is still time if anyone would like to donate to help us reach our $15,000 goal for the 2022-2023 school year. Your donations are very much appreciated.
The campaign helps Southlands deliver programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that are outside of the VSB funding. You will receive a 2022 tax receipt for any donations made (please see below for details).
Funds raised through this campaign will help support the Outdoor Classroom and Classroom Funds. Our fundraising goals are $10,000 for the Outdoor classroom and $5,000 for Classroom funds.
We would like to say a huge Thank you to all of our donors to the campaign so far. We truly appreciate your support! Our total received to date is $7560
To receive a tax receipt:

- Provide cash or write a cheque payable to "Southlands Elementary School" noting "2022 PAC Direct Donation" in the memo and include the pink Donor Recognition Form
Just a reminder, please remember to send the Donor Recognition form to school with the details of your donation, even if you donate online, so that we can be timely with our gratitude. This form also informs us if you would like your name to be included in our recognition of your donation or if you would like to be anonymous. If we do not receive the form, your donation will be considered anonymous.
