Hello Southlands Sockeyes!
We emailed home a school newsletter on Friday - we hope you received it!
Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day. At Southlands, we like to focus on the importance of kindness. We have messages about kindness "sprinkled" all around the school and the Student Leadership Club made a video. It will be posted on Teams.
This is the last week to apply for cross boundary placements in Vancouver. Please help to spread the word! We would like to have more students join us for the IB Program and all of the other things that make our school the wonderful place it is. If you have not yet seen our promotional video - here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE-yYDdD0K0&feature=youtu.be
Thank you to the parents who have been helping to enhance the school grounds with flower bulbs! The VSB gardeners were here all week and our place is looking pretty spiffy!
Thank you and as always, never hesitate to call or email with a question or concern.
Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

Tech, Covid & Kids: Reset for Healthy Habits
On average, teenagers are checking their phone over 150 times/day and spending about 7 hours/day on screens, unrelated to school and homework – and this was before the pandemic. These rates skyrocketed during the lockdown and now children, teens, and adults all need to rely on screens more than ever before. Given technology’s links to problems like anxiety, addiction, and cyberbullying; parents & teachers must now reset children’s tech habits towards learning, connection, self-care & adaptability.
Join psychiatrist, best-selling author, and mom of three, Dr. Shimi Kang MD for an interactive webinar where you will learn:
- How technology is impacting your child’s brain, body, and behavior
- How to differentiate between healthy, stressful & addictive tech experiences.
- How to reset your child’s tech habits for a successful school year
- Guidelines on how to maintain healthy tech habits in your school/ home during the pandemic and beyond including free downloadable reset resources.
This 1 hour interactive webinar will be divided into three 15 min sections with Q&A for each part. Dr. Kang will end with an open 15 min Q&A conversation. Southlands PAC has worked with other local PAC's to bring this webinar to our Southlands family on March 9.
