Hello Southlands Families,
We had fun on Thursday celebrating Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day. Our next special occasion will be Wednesday, Feb. 24th which is Pink Shirt Day.
On Monday, our virtual Scholastic Book Fair opens. Use this link to access the shop: https://virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5156090
Thank you for supporting our school, as we get 20% of the sales to purchase books and other items.
If your child is in Option 4, you should have received some information this week about Option 4 being extended until the end of June, with no loss of placement at our school. You also may have your child return to school between now and the end of June. Please give the office a week's notice.
Finally, thank you for reminding your child to follow the school's health and safety protocols. Some students are having a hard time remembering to give each other space. We know it is difficult, but we all must do our part to keep ourselves and others safe.
As always, please get in touch if you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

Come Read with Me
Come Read with Me is an interactive workshop facilitated by a ONE TO ONE educator designed to give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn positive strategies to help them support their children when reading at home. We will be hosting five virtual sessions for parents, via Zoom, through February and March. Participating families will receive a resource package including the “Reading Success at Home” handbook. This program is available at no cost to families across British Columbia through the generous support of our donors.

Share Your Input on 2020/2021 Budget Development
Each year, the Vancouver School District engages stakeholders and the public to provide feedback and inform the next fiscal year’s budget. We are asking for your input on our 2021-2022 budget. Using an online engagement survey, we’re offering an easy-to-access opportunity to participate. We recognize the importance of hearing from our community’s diverse voices, and we value your views on how to balance our 2021-2022 budget.
We gather input through individual meetings with stakeholders, from residents of the school community through online engagement and attending Committees of the Whole meetings. To join us as a delegation at Committees of the Whole, visit the Budget website here.
This online engagement survey is available now through February 19, 2021 and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Take the survey!

Want to know more about what the LRFP means for Point Grey, and what a potential consolidation with Prince of Wales might mean? This zoom event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the future of our secondary school, as we are one of the feeder elementary schools.
Point Grey is gathering questions to submit to Trustee Cho ahead of time so she’s prepared to answer them next week. Please submit any questions or comments to Deborah Silver, PG DPAC rep at dpac@pointgreyparents.org If you have any other questions or feedback you can also send to Deb Broadhurst, Southlands DPAC rep southlands.dpac.rep@gmail.com

Dunbar Little League has been the focal point of our Dunbar community in the spring and summer months since 1958 for girls and boys aged 5-12. We are excited to be welcoming children in our community back to the park this spring for a safe COVID friendly season of baseball and invite you to join us, no previous baseball experience is required. The season will consist of games as well as practices and will run from April 17th to June 19th.
All games are played against other teams within Dunbar Little League, we do not play regular house season games with teams from other leagues which means no travelling and the opportunity to really get to know your neighbours!
Registration is open now, until February 15th: https://dunbarbaseball.ca/registration/
All registrations will be refunded 100% in the event that we are forced to cancel or dramatically alter the season due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
