Hello Southland Families!

This week was very busy and seemed to go by quickly.  Thank you to all of the parents who helped out this week.  The Pink Shirt Exchange was very successful.  It was nice to see so many Southlanders wearing Pink to emphasise Kindness and Friendship!  Thank you to the manager of the Dunbar London Drugs, for providing us with $50 worth of pink t-shirts, bandanas and bracelets. Thanks also to the parents who helped serve hotdogs on Friday, and to the students from Div. 1 who supervised recycling and organics in the lunchroom: Nicky, Holly, Henry and John.  You made a BIG difference.  Thank you.

We are really looking forward to Exhibition next week.  The students have been working so hard.

We will be sending home a March Newsletter on Monday.  This month, the prize for reading the newsletter and returning the slip will be Pizza with the Principal AND two tickets for the March 10th Canucks vs Islanders game. Thanks to Ms. Katz and her brother for getting us the tickets.

Finally, thank you for all of the birthday wishes.  It only comes around once every four years, so on Saturday, I celebrated my 14th birthday!

As always, please get in touch with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton (@SouthlandsIB)

Southlands has once again taken part in the Destination Imagination tournament. Last year our team had made it to the global finals. Inspired by that performance, this year we have two teams competing. This weekend was the first round, the regional tournament. Over 400 students from Lower Mainland schools competed. The grade 6 team won second place in their category and the grade 4/5 team placed third.  Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and impressive performances.  They will be competing in the provincial finals on April 4th.

Our senior classes are abuzz with activity as the students finish up their Exhibition projects! The Exhibition is a community celebration, so we invite the families of ALL students, not just our senior students.

We hope you can join us for part of the day on either Tuesday March 3 or Wednesday March 4. Please see the schedule of presentations on the PYP blog page.
