Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Happy June, everyone!
As we come to the end of this school year, I am completing my fifth and final term as Southlands PAC Chair. A lot has happened since I first took on the role in 2019, but what hasn't changed is the gratitude I feel at being part of such a special community at Southlands Elementary. Every year I see the power of community and service in our little school, and it has been such an honour to fill the role of PAC Chair while working alongside so many of you, as well as the amazing Southlands staff. I am inspired daily by the example that the Southlands parent community sets for our children, by living the school values of caring for each other and caring for the place we share. I am delighted to be passing the torch to Priya Gupta, our 2025/26 PAC Chair, and the wonderful PAC Executive team, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to our community in other ways next year.
I hope you all have a summer filled with rest, connection and adventure. See you in September!

The STEM Odyssey is a one-day event designed to ignite students' passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our mission is to provide free, valuable, and educational STEM opportunities that are accessible to all children, especially those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The event will include:
- Hands-On Workshops: Students can engage in practical STEM 1-hour workshops, such as making fun programs in Arduino, coding, engineering, 3d printing & CAD design, taught by our experienced volunteer instructors.
- Competitions: Participants can showcase their skills in math competitions and Chess, Rubik’s Cube challenges, with winners receiving certificates and prizes during the award ceremony.
- STEM Activities and Stations: There will be stations with engaging STEM demonstrations and activities, including chemistry, physics, engineering, and more, throughout the day.
- Entertainment and Prizes: The day will also feature musical performances and a lucky draw with multiple exciting prizes.

Mastery School of Music, whose wonderful teacher Mikyla Jensen teaches flute and recorder after school at Southlands, will have some cool camps like song writing, music and coding and a mini music makers camp over the summer.
