Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.

If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,

I hope you had an enjoyable Spring Break. Here we are in April and the remaining three months of the school year. A number of exiting things are happening. The Garden Program is getting under way with the support of Victory Gardens. On Friday, the students really enjoyed digging in the garden beds. We have arranged Hip Hop lessons for the whole school in May. Stay tuned for more details. Southlands has partnered with the Fraser River Discovery Centre. They have received a grant that will allow all of our classes to participate in the educational programs for free! It is an exciting partnership. As well, the VSB Indigenous Department has arranged to have Brent Sparrow carve a welcome post for our school. We are planning the celebration of its installation for the end of June.

Please note that some of our clubs will now be weather dependent. For example, primary beading club will only take place on rainy days this spring. Students should listen to Morning Announcements for updates.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton

IB has produced a document that briefly describes five ways parents and caregivers can support their children’s development in the Primary Years Programme. These ideas can be used for both formal school learning and the informal learning that happens through play and exploration.

Check out the document Ms Wood has posted on the blog.

The Southlands PAC Direct Donation campaign for the 2023/2024 school year is ongoing. We really need your help to reach this year's fundraising goals which are $7,000 for the Outdoor classroom and $5,000 for Classroom funds.
We don't have an update yet from VSB regarding any February online donations, but we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our Donors.

Our total received to date is $5220

Important update: VSB is no longer providing tax receipts for cash or cheque donations.

To donate & receive a tax receipt:
  1. Donate Onlinehttp://vsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/1869/196/false/true and select "E-Southlands PAC"- this is the quickest way to receive a tax receipt
To donate without a tax receipt:
  1. Provide cash or write a cheque payable to "Southlands Elementary School" noting "2023 PAC Direct Donation" in the memo and include the pink Donor Recognition Form
Just a reminder, please remember to send the Donor Recognition form to school with the details of your donation, even if you donate online. This lets us know if you would like your name to be included in our newsletter recognition of donations or if you would like to be anonymous. If we do not receive the form, your donation will be considered anonymous.

Thank you again for supporting Southlands Elementary!
