Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,
Thank you to everyone for supporting Div. 3 in their fundraising for Covenant House. This has become a nice pre-Valentine's day tradition. They raised $375 of their goal of $500! The sale will be on Monday after school as well. All crafts are $1 or by donation.
This past week we had a guest weaver in the school, Musqueam Elder Rita Kompst. She went to each class, taught them to weave hearts out of cedar strips. She explained the importance of cedar to her culture and how craft knowledge is passed on from one generation to another. We are grateful to Rita for sharing her knowledge and skill with us.
There is still time to sign up for the Southlands Sun Run Team! We need two more runners to be an official team with our school name on the back of our shirts. Parents, you are also welcome to sign up and be part of the Sun Run Team. For students, there is a 2.5 course and the 10 km course.
A reminder that Friday, Feb. 17th is a Professional Development Day - no school Friday and Monday for Family Day.

Join us for this month's PAC meeting. Every parent and caregiver with a child at Southlands is automatically part of the Parent Advisory Council. Join other parents in the school library on Feb 14 at 6pm, and hear about the plans for the upcoming year.

There is still time to sign up for the Southlands Sun Run Team! We need two more runners to be an official team with our school name on the back of our shirts. Parents, you are also welcome to sign up and be part of the Sun Run Team. For students, there is a 2.5 course and the 10 km course.
Race Day is April 16th! Families are welcome to join the Southlands Sun Run Team! There is a 2.5km or a 10 km option. Parents and students can walk or run, proudly wearing the Southlands Team technical shirt. To register, go to https://vsrrun.com/join. Look for the Southlands school team. The Southlands Team Access code is HHHKQQ. Please note that we need at least 14 participants and more students than adults to register by March 3rd. Families are responsible for training and race day arrangements. The students will have a few fun runs at school before the big day. Siblings who are not Southlands students are welcome to join the team.

Vancouver IMPACTFest is the first educational conference and workshops which are specifically geared towards showcasing virtual reality, A.I. and other emerging technologies to primary and secondary school students! The next Vancouver IMPACTFest one day conference will be held at 3800 Wesbrook Mall - Vancouver, BC V6S 2L9 (Next to the UBC Campus) - September 12th, 2023 showcasing: Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and OpenAI and ChatGPT technologies and much more!

Our Summer program consists of workshops that students grades 7 to 12 can attend during the summer from July 24th to July 28th, 2023. All Summer program tickets must be purchased by July 1st, 2023! The Summer program includes two course curriculums: Virtual Reality and A.I (OpenAI / Chat GPT)

The Southlands PAC Direct Donation campaign for the 2023/2024 school year is ongoing. We need your help to reach this year's fundraising goals are $7,000 for the Outdoor classroom and $5,000 for Classroom funds.
