Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello Southlands Families,
Firstly, a reminder that we have a professional day on Monday, January 16th. Staff members will be here learning, but students get a long weekend. School resumes on Tuesday as normal.
We are in the process of setting up some lunchtime clubs: Beading, Chess and Choir and Homework Clubs will be starting soon. There will be two Beading Clubs, one for grades 1- 4 and one for grades 5 - 7. Homework Club is for students in grades 5 - 7. Choir and Chess are open to all age groups. All clubs are 12:20 - 12:50 pm. We have to be somewhat flexible with the days due to potential staffing shortages, but the tentative plan is:
- Tuesday: Homework Club
- Wednesday: Beading Clubs
- Thursday: Choir
- Friday: Chess Club
Students should listen carefully to morning messages for updates.
Our bi-weekly newsletter will be sent home on Friday, January 23rd. Watch for it in your in-box!

Grade 7 Bottle Drive Fundraiser
We would like to thank everyone who has donated their recyclable beverage containers to the Grade 7 fundraising event. We are continuing this event and funds will go towards our leaving ceremony, legacy gift for the school and a group celebration activity. You can help us by donating any bottles or cans that you’re able to towards our bottle drive.
Here’s how:
- Simply email us at southlands.bottledrive@gmail.com to let us know you have bottles you would like us to pick up. Provide us with your address and pickup date and leave the bag of items to be deposited at your front door with the label “Southlands” the night before your desired pickup date.
- Text 778-707-8801 to let us know you have bottles you would like us to pick up. Provide us with your address and pickup date and leave the bag of items to be deposited at your front door with the label “Southlands” the night before your desired pickup date.
- Place your return-it items in a clear bag and head to an Express Return-it location. Type in 604-713-5414 to print a label that will donate the bottle deposit funds directly to our bottle drive account.

Generation Health is a FREE 9-week healthy lifestyle program for children and their families, delivered through YMCA BC and in partnership with the Childhood Obesity Foundation. Program participants will meet virtually to learn about healthy eating, physical activity, goal setting, body image, self-esteem and more!
We have 3 program days to choose from: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 pm. This program requires prior registration through these details: phone 1-888-650-3141 or send an e-mail to generationhealth@gv.ymca.ca .
Families who join this program receive a complimentary membership to the YMCA.

Hello Southlands families!
The Southlands PAC Direct Donation campaign for the 2023/2024 school year is well underway. This campaign helps Southlands deliver programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that are outside of the VSB funding. Please consider donating, your generous support is greatly appreciated.

Funds raised through this campaign will help support the Outdoor Classroom and Classroom Funds. Our fundraising goals are $7,000 for the Outdoor classroom and $5,000 for Classroom funds.

Just a reminder, please remember to send the Donor Recognition form to school with the details of your donation, even if you donate online, so that we can be timely with our gratitude. This form also informs us if you would like your name to be included in our recognition of your donation or if you would like to be anonymous. If we do not receive the form, your donation will be considered anonymous.
