Hello Southlands Families,
Yesterday, the VSB sent an email to families asking for feedback on the future of schools in the district.
"The Board is engaging the public to learn about ways we can use VSB buildings across the city. Our priorities are to create modern learning spaces and ensure all our students are in seismically safe schools."
This is an important survey that will have impacts on our children and our schools – Southlands and the secondary schools. Southlands is one of the 40 schools in the VSB (and 247 in BC) that is listed as a “future priority” within the Seismic Mitigation Program, which means funds are not committed to remediating our school.
We encourage you to read the information put together by the District PAC, and their view of this communication.
You can also find the presentation Southlands PAC gave to the VSB Facilities & Planning Committee on April 17, 2019 to give VSB specific input about our school posted here. While we did not receive any feedback from VSB or the Trustees following the presentation, but we believe it gives you background to help fill out the survey.
For more information about the LRFP (long range facilities plan), please visit the VSB site
The PAC is encouraging all parents to review the information and fill out the survey to ensure you have a say in the future education of our children. Any parents who would like to learn more or participate in a facilities and planning committee, please reach out to the PAC Chair.
Thank you for being involved and caring for our school.
