Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Good evening Southlands families
Hope everyone had a chance to order hot lunch via Munchalunch. If you have any trouble, feel free to reach out to us. There was a tiny mistake in Munchalunch last week. Wednesday, December 17th was missing in the list of hot lunch days. If you ordered for the whole term, please go back in and order for that day as it is now available.
Our Spirit wear will be available to order next week. We are doing size fittings for the tshirts and hoodies on "Meet the Teachers" night. Come by our booth and check your sizes on Wednesday, September 24th after school.
We are looking for class parents. Class parents act as a liaison between teachers and families, communicating important information, coordinating volunteers for school activities, and supporting the teacher's efforts. Their responsibilities can include creating a class directory, organizing class parties and teacher gifts, and fostering a strong classroom community. Please see below on which divisions are missing class parents.

You are invited to join Flute and Recorder Classes with the Mastery School of Music at Southlands Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year!
Rehearsals will be held at the following times:
- Recorder (Gr K-2): Tuesdays - 3:05pm-3:35pm
- Flute (Gr 3-7): Thursdays - 3:05pm-3:35pm
Recorders can be purchased for $10 at the first lesson, Flutes may be rented from the PAC
First Classes will be Tuesday, October 7th (recorder), and Thursday October 2nd (Flute)
Students sign up for both semesters (32 Classes) at the start of the year, with two equal payments, in the form of post-dated checks of $288/semester. Semester 1 is September 2025 - January 2026 and Semester 2 is February 2026 - June 2026. Sign up sheets will be coming in your child's backpack soon.
Class attendance is important, and students will need to bring their instruments every week, as well as their music folders. Attendance at Christmas and year-end recitals is expected, as with other opportunities for group and solo performances through the Mastery School of Music and Southlands Elementary.

It's that time of year again that we are looking for class parents for each division. This is a great role to be involved in and doesn't take too much time. It mainly involves sharing information with the class from the PAC as needed, helping to create a community within your group and most importantly celebrating and thanking our amazing teachers in the holiday period and at the end of the year.
If you are interested in this role or have any questions, please email southlands.elementary@gmail,com. Please let us know the division you would like to be a class parent for. This role can be shared with another parent.
