Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.

If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.
Hello Southlands families

The Vancouver DPAC has shared information about a rezoning application that is with the City of Vancouver, asking for permission to rezone the basketball courts at Fleming Elementary on 41st Ave and Knight Street. Fleming PAC and DPAC are asking for help to put a stop to this development and ask the City not to support the VSB’s decision to give a developer a 99-year lease of the land where there are currently basketball courts used by students and the community.

Fleming Elementary is currently full of students and at 107% capacity. Well documented data shows continued growth in the Fleming community, and the play space on the school grounds will be needed for future enrollment growth. Other Vancouver school land is also at risk of being disposed of for development with this dangerous precedent. With increasing density coming quickly in the Southlands catchment area, this issue seems very relevant for our own school community. If you have time, please support Fleming Elementary.

The links below share important information about this process and the Fleming PAC advocacy campaign, including a link to submit your comments to the City of Vancouver about the rezoning application. The deadline to send your comments/questions to the City, and to add your name to the DPAC letter is February 11th.

Food Framework Working Group
The Vancouver DPAC’s Food Framework Working Group, in partnership with BC Chapter of the Coalition for Healthy School Food (BC-CHSF), is advocating for a universal healthy school food program.
