Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.

If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello!

I want to thank you all for your continued support. I am really proud of our students and the growth they’re demonstrating this term. I was so impressed with the student-led assembly for Remembrance Day. We had grade 7 students vision, write and lead the assembly completely independently. They did an amazing job. They were also joined by other students who wrote or recited poems and we had a lovely video about peace from our Kindergarten students.

We are having some issues with a lot of litter being left on the school grounds at recess and lunch. Can I ask that you have a quick word with your children about “taking care of this place”. We have brought back our Eco Heroes and they did an amazing job over the last couple of days beautifying our school grounds, a big thank you to them!

I will announce further details in an upcoming school newsletter, we will host our Winter Concert on December 18th this year.

Thanks again and as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Principal
Southlands Elementary School

It's that time of year again that we are looking for class parents for each division. This is a great role to be involved in and doesn't take too much time. It mainly involves sharing information with the class from the PAC as needed, helping to create a community within your group and most importantly celebrating and thanking our amazing teachers in the holiday period and at the end of the year.

If you are interested in this role or have any questions, please email Jenny Wasko-Paterson:

Thanks for volunteering!

A group of students at nearby Point Grey Secondary school have started a campaign to raise awareness about the need for AED devices in Vancouver schools. After one of their fellow students died of cardiac arrest last year, the students learned that automatic defibrillators (AEDs) are not provided by the VSB, and they hope to change that. Read more about their campaign here.

The group is looking for more personal letters of support prior to November 14th which is the deadline for submission to the VSB public hearing. If you are able to assist in writing a personal letter and/or spreading the word that would be greatly appreciated. Letters can be sent to Franco Ng
