Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Join us for this month's PAC meeting. Every parent and caregiver with a child at Southlands is automatically part of the Parent Advisory Council. Join other parents in the school library on Oct 16 at 6pm, and hear about the plans for the upcoming year.
Please email southlands.elementary@gmail.com if you want to add items to the agenda for the meeting.
PAC meetings will happen every month on the third Wednesday of the month. We will alternate between virtual and in-person meetings. |

Check your child's backpack for a pink notice! Registration is open for Flute and Recorder Classes with the Mastery School of Music at Southlands Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year!
Rehearsals will be held at the following times:
- Recorder (Gr K-2): Tuesdays - 3:05pm-3:35pm
- Flute (Gr 3-7): Thursdays - 3:05pm-3:35pm
- Recorders can be purchased for $10 at the first lesson, Flutes may be rented from the PAC
- First Classes will be Tuesday, October 8 (recorder), and Thursday October 10 (Flute)
Students sign up for both semesters (32 Classes) at the start of the year, with two equal payments, in the form of post-dated checks of $304/semester. Semester 1 is October 2024 - January 2025 and Semester 2 is February 2024 - June 2025. Return your form with cheques attached to the school office.
Class attendance is important, and students will need to bring their instruments every week, as well as their music folders. Attendance at Christmas and year-end recitals is expected, as with other opportunities for group and solo performances through the Mastery School of Music and Southlands Elementary.

Laurent Rainey-Blue Isadore - MISTATIMOSIMOH NAPEW NISÌKASON
It is with gratitude and great sadness that we remember Laurent Rainey-Blue Isadore, a proud Woodlands Cree man born in Lesser Slave Lake Alberta who visited us from his home in Driftpile First Nation which is located in Treaty 8 territory, for BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Council AGM 2024. Laurent shared his wisdom and compassion with the BCCPAC community to honour Red Dress Day, which took place during the AGM. Laurent reminds us to think of those on the National list of MMIW2S+ and to act today and every day. What can we all do to take action?
- Read “Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls”
- BCCPAC calls on all levels of government and our education partners to commit to the 231 Calls to Justice from the National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Final Report.
- Write a letter to elected representatives asking them to commit to the 231 Calls for Justice.
- Attend a local or online vigil.
- Wear red or hang a red dress in honor of the REDress Project.
- Follow and use the hashtag ##MMIWG2S to find local or online events and to amplify messages about this National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Gender Diverse People
