If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office. If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#. Hello!   First, I’d like to thank all of you for such a warm welcome. I have been overwhelmed by the positive reception. I’m truly honoured to be joining this community. We have been working very hard to get things organized and provide the best learning environment for our students. A couple of notes:  We’ll be sending out student forms next week. Please fill out the paper forms we send, as soon as possible. We need these back for ALL students 😊   There are also several consent forms that you’ll receive via MyForms. If you’ve already filled these out in years past, there is no need to fill them out again, unless you have changed the consent associated with your child. This applies ONLY to the digital MyForms ones. Please fill and send back all paper forms.  On a lighter note, we had our first schoolwide assembly on Friday and it was fantastic. A huge thank you to Mr. Lee and the students of Division 1. They did a great job leading an engaging assembly. I really appreciate that the Southlands way is to let the students lead and this was an excellent example.   Orange Shirt Day – We will have our Orange Shirt day on Thursday September 26 here at Southlands. This is a day we encourage everyone to wear Orange to make a statement to support reconciliation.  Cross Country – The first Cross Country event of the season will happen on Tuesday September 24. A huge thank you to Ms. Wood and others for coaching! Have a lovely week!  Craig Larson (he/him) Principal  Southlands Elementary School Hot lunch is starting up Oct 4. This year, we will be using a new provider, and they need additional notice for orders. So you will be ordering two weeks in advance. For example, orders placed by Wed, Sep 25 will be delivered to your child's class on Fri, Oct 4. Orders placed by Oct 2 will deliver Oct 11. Etc. You are able to order every week, or for the entire term at one time. New this year, you can place both pizza and hot lunch orders at the same time instead of waiting for them to be activated one at a time. The new Hot lunch provider also has a theme menu every week. These are a few themed food items available in addition to the regular menu: Oct 4: Kebab Day Oct 11: Pasta Day Oct 18: Mexican Day Oct 25: Asian Day Nov 1: Kebab Day Nov 8: Pasta Day Nov 15: Mexican Day Nov 21: Asian Day (Thu; Fri is a ProD Day) Nov 29: Kebab Day Dec 6: Pasta Day Dec 13: Mexican Day Dec 20: Asian Day All ordering will be done via Munchalunch.
