Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.

If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.

If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello, Southlands Families.

Last week was a very eventful week. On Friday we sent home a Southlands School Newsletter with lots of pictures of the events and things going on around the school. I will be away March 3 - 10 visiting my (grown up) children in Montreal. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher and/or Mr. Jung who is the teacher-in-charge. Ms. Teresa can always help you connect you to the correct person. All the best for the week ahead.

Sincerely,
Margaret Paxton (she/her)

On February 27 a special ceremony at Southlands Elementary unveiled a traditional Musqueam House Post carved by Musqueam artist and Southlands alumni, Brent Sparrow. The ceremony was led by Alec Dan who explained to us the protocol of the ceremony, invited chosen witnesses, introduced ceremonial songs and dance, and told us about the images carved by Brent Sparrow on the House Post.

We learned that Musqueam's House Posts are like an address in modern times. It represents who resides and belongs there. Perhaps most people are familiar with the term Totem pole, however they are created and represent Northern tribes, whereas Houseposts are created by Musqueam and Coast Salish families. The witnesses Wade Grant, Gordon Grant and Johnny Louis shared with us their reflections about the event, their time as Southlands students, and important messages about the significance of the House Post and it's deep importance to past, current and future Musqueam students at Southlands.  Please enjoy these videos.

Southlands Elementary PAC is excited to launch the Direct Donation campaign, raising funds for the 2023/20234 school year.
https://vsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/1869/196/false/true

Southlands Elementary School takes pride in having built a strong spirit of Giving that is powered by the generous contributions of your time and financial support to help enrich our children’s learning. Over the years, the Direct Donation campaign has helped Southlands deliver new programs and upgraded services to our entire student community that were outside of the VSB funding.

We are seeking to raise $10,000 to fund our basic budgetary demands and enrichment programs that help our children learn and develop the IB Primary Years Program Essential elements: Learner Profile; Transdisciplinary Themes; Concepts, Attitudes; Approaches to Learning and Action. The money raised in this campaign will be used to fund the following items in the 2024-25 school year:

Fundraising Goals
Outdoor Classroom                $5,000
Classroom Funds                   $5,000

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT!
