Please continue to make sure your child(ren) are healthy and feeling well before sending them to school.
If you are late to school (after 9:00 am), your child(ren) must enter through the upper front door by the salmon mural and check-in at the office. The upper front door is now unlocked during the day so no need to call or ring the doorbell. All parents entering the school must enter through the upper front door and check-in at the office.
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please email souattendance@vsb.bc.ca or phone 604-713-5159 as soon as possible and leave your child's name, division number, the date and whether they will be absent or late. If you phone, you will be required to use a school code. The Southlands school code is 79#.

Hello, Southlands Families and Happy December!
Last week, we all felt very wintery as snow made an appearance. Just a reminder that snow days are very rare and if you do not hear anything on the radio or read anything on the VSB website - Southlands is open as usual.
We are excited about our two upcoming assemblies:
- Monday, Dec. 12th at 2:00 pm - Southlands 70th Birthday Assembly - there will be some seating for parents and special guests.
- Wednesday, Dec. 14th at 1:30 pm - Winter Concert - there will be lots of seating for families. Each class will perform on stage then go back to their classrooms.
I am writing this on Friday evening, Dec. 2nd, at the airport, on my way to Montreal for the weekend, Monday and Tuesday. Principals get 35 vacation days per year and we cannot use them all in the summer. I am going to have an early Christmas with my son, Nicholas, and my daughter-in-law, Justine. Mr. Jung will be the teacher-in-charge while I am away. All the best for the week ahead.

Dear Southlands families,
Can't believe we are only a few weeks away from Christmas. We have a few exciting events for the month of December, including our Winter Concert, Southlands' 70th Birthday, Hot Chocolate Fundraiser as well as preparing class gifts for our amazing Southlands teachers and staff. As we head into this holiday season, let's also be warm-hearted towards those who are in need. There will be a food bank donation as well as socks donation initiatives from our school community.
Also, I would like to announce two things, first off, we will be postponing our December Zoom PAC meeting to an in-person January PAC meeting. Secondly, on behalf of our fundraising/hot lunch committee, we would be increasing the prize of our pizza lunch from $5.25 to $6.00 from January 2023 to help curb Munchalunch transaction fees and other costs such as delivery fees. Thank you so much for all your continued support in our fundraising programs and please let me know if you have concerns or questions.

The Grade 7s are fundraising for their leaving celebrations and legacy gift for the school. Their first event is a hot chocolate sale.
Hot chocolate will be sold after school for $2 a cup on Tuesday 6th December, Thursday 8th December, Tuesday 13th December and Thursday 15th December.
Please bring your toonies and support their fundraising efforts and enjoy some delicious hot chocolate.
